Tutorial: Sweet Valentine Boxes

As you may know I decorate for almost every holiday ( with the exception of St. Patty's and The 4th.) I usually put heart shaped doilies in the window and have little twig trees decorated with hearts. I have collected some pretty decor over the years but I love handmade things. I saw these sweet little heart boxes at The Dollar Store screaming for a makeover.

Tutorial Sweet Valentine Boxes

  • Dollar Tree Plastic Heart Boxes
  • Chalkboard Spray paint
  • Scissors
  • Chalk
  • Optional Cotton Twine for hanging if you want ornaments
Open up the boxes and place tops on a piece of cardboard or heavy paper. Spray paint tops with at least two coats. ( I tried one coat and scratched one of the boxes with chalk.) Be sure to coat the sides evenly.
Allow them to fully dry then draw to your hearts content! If you wish to use the boxes to give gifts spray with a sealant so the chalk doesn't smudge.

*To make hanging ornaments cut a few inches of cotton twine and loop into the box.

I love that you can redo these each year!

How do you decorate for Valentine's Day? Any traditions ? Do you make handmade Valentines for friends and family ?
