One of my biggest projects ever is in full swing. I have always wanted to recover a chair but didn't have the heart to destroy a piece of furniture as I sometimes have to do things twice...
I have a beautiful chair that my grandmother left in our home that was aching for new fabric so I decided to slipcover. Throughout the bloggy community there have been many DIYers that have come before me and survived: Pink and Polka Dot, Sew Mama Sew.
To start I researched a ton online, then went to the library and pawed thru pages of old decorator books ( thanks to a sleeping toddler) and then decided it was time to stop procrastinating and start. Last night I did the sides, pretty easy but I was a little distracted by Will Smith and his moviethon on TNT. Tomorrow night I plan on finishing pinning and Tuesday night I will begin machine sewing!
Have you slipcovered before ? Any tips or tricks that you would like to share ?
I haven't sewn a slipcover before, but more power to ya, girl! I remember reading Sew Mama Sew and her experiences with slipcovers a few years ago and it scared the bejeebus out of me. You are awesome for doing it, though. Post updates!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment Heather! I am scared. I hope to finish it this weekend:)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are taking the plunge and doing it. I've sewn two now. One for a yard sale chair and one for my sister's glider. Both came out good (a few small imperfections, but no one would notice. Looks like you have the right start. Can't wait to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteBTW, saw your comment on my blog post about the bed turned garden bench. Thank you for offering to post on your blog! If you need a button, I have one on my sidebar you can grab. ;-).
